You know it’s getting more and more difficult to not do these types of posts. But the press keeps on sucking so here I am yet again. The White House Press Corps in their “infinite wisdom” has decided to rally together to chastise the Obama administration. One would think that since there are so many different types of journalists from such a large variety organizations both foreign and domestic, that this criticism must be on a topic of paramount importance. Something involving national security, right? Wrong. The entire hissy fit was precipitated by President’s golf outing with Tiger Woods. Or rather, their inability to photograph said outing. I wish I was kidding. Here’s the story from the Huffington Post.
Speaking on behalf of the White House Correspondents Association, I can say a broad cross section of our members from print, radio, online and TV have today expressed extreme frustration to me about having absolutely no access to the President of the United States this entire weekend. There is a very simple but important principle we will continue to fight for today and in the days ahead: transparency.
Ah yes, transparency. Surely high level bi-lateral negotiations were going on between Tiger Woods’ caddy and the President’s chief of staff. And when the Founding Fathers were drafting the Bill of Rights, knowing which club the President used for his approach shot on the 16 was key to the whole freedom of the press thing. What’s the President hiding anyway?! This shows the true tabloidization of the media today. Beware the “extreme frustration” by the press corps if they can’t get some photos of famous people together and shout out questions at them TMZ-style. Who cares about insignificant things like drone programs or secret prisons — give us the good stuff! God, these people are a pestilence. Just when you think media can’t get any more shallow, they manage to drain a little more sewage out of the cesspool.
