There’s been all this bitching by people in the conservative media about how bad a candidate Romneybot has been. But I think they’re missing a larger point. Yes this is a person that appears to be bereft of a moral core. Not only has he been on every side of every issue (health care reform, women’s health, the war on terror, climate change, etc) but he also expects us to take him seriously. To say nothing of the fact that he’s apparently lived such a sheltered life that he seems incapable of interacting with us humans.
Need to ingratiate yourself to people of Michigan, talk about the how the trees are just the right height. Want to drum up support with southern folk, just talk about how you know lots of Nascar owners. Want Black people to like you, start singing “Who Let the Dogs Out.” Its so painful watching his android mind try and make sense of us. Its like he defies parody. What was I talking about again?
Ah yes, he is in fact, a terrible candidate. And I’ve been enjoying the schadenfreude but the real problem isn’t the campaign he’s running but the actual ideology itself. Take away what passes for glitz and glamour and speeches lionizing job creators and what do you have? It basically boils down to voodoo economics (maybe I was Bush 41’s speech writer), an even more lax regulatory structure, and a really hawkish foreign policy. Americans, as ill-informed as we are, don’t want to shred what’s left of the social safety net. And if we were, we wouldn’t trade it for further tax breaks on the 1% and corporations. Similarly, we have no stomach for adding Iran and Syria to the wars we’re already waging across the globe.
To paraphrase my favorite political consultant from the Dagobah system, That is why he fails.
In my humble non-blog like opinion of course.

Romney’s a world class idiot, but both candidates have the same exact positions on the policies that matter.
I wouldn’t say that. Although its hard to pin down what Romney’s actual positions are since he changes them so often. But as of 3:55pm EST he doesn’t believe in a woman’s right to choose, a time-line for withdrawal in Afghanistan, marriage equality, gays serving openly in the military, nor the DREAM Act. To say nothing of health care reform.
The President has the exact opposite positions.
Positions mean nothing. Bush was against abortion and Rove V Wade still exists. If you’re slow enough to vote for either of these 2 idiots, you have to look at what they’re LIKELY to do and their records are pretty much the same. Romney won’t listen to the religious right any more than Obama will listen to the “communists.” They’ll both listen to corporations and banks because that’s where their campaign money comes from.
Bush never stated that he would work to overturn Roe v. Wade. Romney has said so repeatedly.
There are several Supreme Court justices that are in their 70’s. That means that the next president gets to pick two, maybe three new judges. So when Romney says he wants to overturn Roe vs. Wade, he can also appoint justices to do just that.
If Romney manages to win, he’d also probably have a Republican House and Senate to work with. A House and Senate that have gotten much more conservative in the last two years. So its extremely likely that health care reform, gays serving openly in the military, and the Lili Ledbetter fair pay act would be signed away.
So if you think these guys are exactly the same, I don’t know what to tell you. I haven’t even gotten into potential changes to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
Money in politics is a seperate issue entirely but only one candidate thinks that we need a Constitutional Amendment to get money out of campaigns. And that sure ain’t Romney.
